The Alliance at Delivery of Things World 2016

DevOps is one of the most innovative trends adopted by digital companies to transform software and app development processes. Born of the need to improve IT service delivery agility, the DevOps movement emphasises communication, collaboration and integration between software developers and IT operations. Rather than seeing these two groups as silos which pass things along but don’t really work together, DevOps recognises the interdependence of software development and IT operations and helps an organization produce software and IT services more rapidly, with frequent iterations.

DevOps was the main focus of the Conference Delivery of Things Wold 2016, held in Berlin on 25 and 26 April 2016. It brought together stakeholders active in the DevOps scene to share their expertise. This year, over 60 speakers and 300 attendees came together in Berlin to dive into topics such as DevOps, security and ‘continuous delivery’.

Catriona Meehan, Director of EU Policy and Government Affairs at the Application Developers Alliance chaired the two-day event and moderated the panel “Balancing the 3 Pillars of DevOps – managing people, processes and technology change to grow a DevOps culture”.

On stage during the closing panel of the second day Jonny Wooldridge from the Cambridge Satchel Company, Stephen Hardisty, RocketInternet and Norma Acavedo from Ericsson. They touched on many issues and stressed the importance of hiring innovative and flexible employees who share the vision of agile change and want to adapt and grow within the company.

“It has been a hugely insightful conference” said Meehan after the conclusion of the activities, “the level of best practice sharing was extremely high and companies adopting the DevOps philosophy are truly benefitting from agile change. Companies that incorporate DevOps practices are also becoming more efficient: on average, they deploy code up to 30 times more frequently than their competition, and less than 50% of their deployments fail.”

Delivery of Things World is fundamental in discussing the potential of DevOps for faster development of apps and raising awareness amongst professionals working different sectors, as well as educating decision makers.
