Opportunities for Mobile Innovators: CTIA Announces StartUp Labs 2016

If you want to know about the future of wireless, look no further than CTIA Super Mobility 2016. This three-day event is a must-attend conference for news and innovation in the wireless ecosystem, with keynote panels, educational sessions, and exhibitions on the latest mobile technologies, happening in Las Vegas September 7-9.

The Application Developers Alliance spoke with Jackie McCarthy, Director of Regulatory Affairs for CTIA, who filled us in on Super Mobility 2016 and where the wireless industry is headed.

Apps Alliance:  True to CTIA’s mission to support mobile innovation, Super Mobility 2016 will feature the third annual Startup Labs. Can you tell us about the program?

Jackie McCarthy:  Our program is designed to accelerate connection with and investment in seed-and-growth-stage companies and the mobile industry, corporate partners and venture capital investors at CTIA Super Mobility 2016, the US wireless industry’s flagship business-to-business event.  During the program, we will match startups with CTIA Innovation Council members for meetings in Las Vegas. Most companies will complete the program with at least 5 one-on-one introductions.

Apps Alliance:  What are some examples of companies that have participated or perhaps even won in previous years? What are you looking for in 2016 applicants?

Jackie McCarthy:  In 2015, participant companies included ArmorText (a DC-based secure messaging platform), PEQ (a Kansas City-based home automation platform) and EngageMyHealth (a Denver-area patient engagement tool for understanding and complying with post-operative instructions).

In 2016, the CTIA StartUp Lab will accept 25 companies focused on the following six core verticals: wireless, video, cybersecurity, advertising/marketing, connected transportation and The Internet of Things.

Apps Alliance:  What can participants expect in terms of business development and/or investment opportunities?

Jackie McCarthy:  CTIA Super Mobility convenes major mobile industry players under one roof. Our events are designed to increase your reach to investment capital and industry relationships. Companies will enhance product visibility and access media coverage through demos on the Super Mobility show floor and pitch fest (Sept 7-8, time TBD). Participant will come away with a comprehensive experience of potential product development, partnerships and future features in the mobile ecosystem.

Apps Alliance:  The program is invite-only. If companies wish to be nominated, what should they do?

Jackie McCarthy:  Consider this your invite! Please use this link to apply by June 10.

Thanks for speaking with us, Jackie! Check out the CTIA Super Mobility 2016 event site for more information on this highly-anticipated event! Early registration ends July 21st.
