European Commission and US Congress must urgently reach a new international agreement on transatlantic data flows, says Applications Developers Alliance

Apps Alliance Critical of Rushed CJEU Safe Harbour Ruling

(Brussels, 6 October 2015) – In a blow to small digital businesses and in contrast to many efforts of the European Commission, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) today ruled that the 2000 EU/US Data Protection Safe Harbour Agreement is invalid. The CJEU decision in the so-called “Schrems” case (C-362/14), comes as the EU has become increasingly critical of EU citizens’ data being transferred outside the EU.

Patent Trolls Jeopardize Public Safety; Victims Urge Congress to Legislate

Washington, D.C. (September 15, 2015) – The Application Developers Alliance and several small companies sued by 911 Notify, a notorious patent troll, today called on Congress to swiftly pass patent reform legislation.  Gulfstream Telematics LLC (Colo.), LifeLine Response (Ill.), MobileTREC Corporation (Calif.), CarShield Services Inc. (Calif.),ICEdot (Okla.), and more than 40 other public safety providers sued by 911 Notify since 2013, connect the elderly, children and families to first responders and emergency contacts in the event of a life-threatening event.
