Application Developers Alliance Applauds Schumer Plan to Introduce Patent Legislation

Washington, D.C. (May 1, 2013) – The Application Developers Alliance praised Senator Charles Schumer’s (D-NY) announcement of his intention to introduce legislation addressing patent troll abuse. Schumer’s bill will expand the Covered Business Method Program, which currently covers only financial services related patents, to apply to all business method patents. The expansion would allow companies to challenge the validity of a troll’s patent in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) as an alternative to expensive and time-consuming litigation.

Application Developers Alliance Holds San Francisco Privacy Summit

San Francisco, CA (April 8, 2013) – The Application Developers Alliance holds the first in its series of Developer Patent Summits on Tuesday, April 9, in San Francisco. The event, which will be held at RocketSpace, is the first in a fifteen-city tour that will convene app developers, entrepreneurs, patent experts, and policymakers to discuss software patent challenges, trolls, and ideas for reform. Application Developers Alliance to Counter Patent Troll Suits

Washington, D.C. (April 4, 2013) – The Application Developers Alliance is convening app developers targeted by notorious patent troll Lodsys to mount a legal defense on their behalf. Today’s announcement comes as Lodsys files a new round of lawsuits against companies large and small, including Alliance member TMSOFT, claiming infringement of patents so vague they could apply to virtually any app. The Alliance will partner with the Electronic Frontier Foundation and others to provide support and legal counsel to many of Lodsys’ most recent victims.
