Brussels, EU, January 18, 2023 – Developers Alliance joined 12 other associations in a joint industry statement, urging the EU lawmakers to prioritize legal clarity and certainty over speed in the legislative process on the Data Act.
The Data Act proposal is an important part of the EU strategy to boost the data economy and will have an impact on different businesses across sectors, including those of software developers.
The joint statement calls the EU lawmakers to:
- Clarify the scope
- Take into account legitimate business interests and ensure protection of trade secrets
- Ensure a practical approach for cloud infrastructure services
- Avoid hindering international data transfers
Karina Stan, Head of EU Policy of the Developers Alliance, issued the following statement:
“The EU Data Act is meant to offer opportunities for data-driven businesses. Software developers will make the most of it only if the new rules are viable legally and technically.”
