Developers Alliance Joins Call for EU Policymakers to Swiftly Adopt the Extension of the Interim ePrivacy Derogation

Developers Alliance has co-signed, together with 52 tech associations and child rights organizations, a statement calling on the European Parliament to support the Commission and the Council commitment to swiftly adopt the ePrivacy derogation extension.

January 23, 2024 – The Alliance and our industry partners make several suggestions to better deal with CSAM while preserving trust and avoiding unforeseen outcomes:

Key Points

  • The extension is needed to avoid a legal gap until the new regulation on combating child sexual abuse material (CSAM) will be adopted and implemented.
  • The interpersonal communications service (ICS) providers need to continue carrying out selected detection, reporting and removal work against CSA online.
  • Measures to process data need to be introduced in the CSA Regulation, in order for ICS providers to continue a proactive and transparent mitigation of CSA risks on their services.
