Developers Alliance Joins Amicus Brief to Ensure Patent System Works to Foster Innovation

The Developers Alliance, along with Engine and ACT | The App Association encourages the PTO and Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) to focus on patent validity to alleviate potential misconduct in the system.

Geoff Lane, Head of U.S. Policy for the Developers Alliance, issued the following statement:

“PTAB can be an excellent, cost effective resource for developers and the small businesses that employ them. With just a single lawsuit patent trolls can drive businesses into the ground with their sue-and-settle tactics. Patent trolls only curb innovation and drive up costs for consumers. PTAB, when working properly, is a cheaper alternative than fighting frivolous lawsuits in district court. We’re hopeful PTAB can function as intended and carry out its goal of patent validity. Doing so will help developers across the country worry more about their next product and less about frivolous lawsuits.”
