The developer advocate finds Senate Judiciary’s’s hearing misrepresents the developer community in sharp contrast to previous findings.
Washington D.C., September 22nd, 2021 – Yesterday, September 21st, the Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, presided over by Senator Klobuchar (D-MN), held the hearing “Big Data, Big Questions: Implications for Competition and Consumers.”
The Developers Alliance has issued the following statement in response to the discussions held during the Subcommittee’s hearing.
“Despite what some members of Congress have suggested, competition within the app space is going strong. In our February 2021 survey, 86% of developers in North America said that their revenue has remained stable or increased in the last two years, as has their ability to become financially successful.”
Developers believe in strong data privacy and urge congress to draft clear laws to provide guidelines surrounding these principles. Good ideas succeed, independent of access to data, not because of it. In order for a thriving, globally competitive tech ecosystem, however, developers must maintain the ability to monetize the products and services that they bring to market, and data is a part of that larger conversation.”
We look forward to working with members of Congress as they move forward to address data privacy policies to promote consumer protection while ensuring a thriving 21st-century American economy.”
