The letters were sent this week from industry coalitions, and highlight the unintended effects the DSA and the DMA could have on European developers and businesses.
Brussels, November 13th, 2021 – This week, the Developers Alliance has signed two industry letters, each addressing one of the EU’s upcoming pieces of legislation concerning digital economies, the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA)).
In the first letter, released November 10th, the Developers Alliance joined with 20 other organisations in expressing their concern that both Parliament and Council have failed in addressing the various and damaging unintended consequences that the DMA could have on European SMEs, entrepreneurs and consumers. This letter can be found in its entirety here.
The second letter, sent on November 12th, consisted of 16 trade associations representing startups, SMEs, technology, advertising, and media organisations of different sizes and urged MEPs to ensure the DSA remains a workable, balanced and future proof legislation. The full letter can be found here.
The following can be attributed to Karina Stan, Director of EU Policy and Head of Brussels Office:
“We are calling on EU lawmakers to consider the effects of these two important regulations for European digital entrepreneurs and innovators, such as software developers. They shouldn’t be deprived of market access and the business services and tools they are currently benefiting from. They shouldn’t bear higher costs for doing business in the EU.”
