App Economy Generates $2 Billion for Washington Economy

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) – Washington ranks first in the nation as an app industry leader, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy”, found that application development is responsible for 49,800 jobs in Washington, with an economic impact of more than $2 billion. That makes Washington the nation’s most “app intense” state. App intensity is a measure of the number of app economy jobs relative to the number of jobs in a state overall.

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) – Virginia ranks as a national app industry leader, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy”, found that application development is responsible for 15,000 jobs in Virginia, with an economic impact of $788 million. That makes Virginia the 8th most “app intense” state in the nation. App intensity measures the number of app related jobs in a state relative to the number of jobs overall.

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) – Pennsylvania ranks as a top state for app industry employment, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy,” found that application development is responsible for 12,900 jobs in Pennsylvania, with an economic impact of $632 million.

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) – Oregon ranks as one of the nation’s app industry leaders, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy,” found that application development is responsible for 10,800 jobs in Oregon, with an economic impact of $526 million. That makes Oregon the 4th most “app intense” state in the nation. “App intensity” is a measure in how many app economy jobs are in the state compared with the number of total jobs.

(October 4, 2012) – Colorado ranks as one of the nation’s app industry leaders, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy,” found that application development is responsible for more than 8,000 jobs in Colorado with an economic impact of $429 million. That makes Colorado the tenth most “app intense” state. App intensity is a measure of the number of app economy jobs in a state relative to the number of jobs overall.

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) – Maryland ranks as one of the nation’s app industry leaders, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® in conjunction with the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy”, found that application development is responsible for 8,400 jobs in Maryland, with an economic impact of $436 million. That makes Maryland the 15th most “app intense” state in the country.

Michael Mayernick, co-founder of Spinnakr, and Tom Chernaik, CEO of CMP.LY, participated in the “Apps 101” session, held as part of the ongoing multi-stakeholder meetings on mobile app privacy at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). No End in Sight for App Market’s Fast Growth

significantly in the near future, according to a study released today by the Application
Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by Frank N. Magid and Associates,
surveyed 1,000 online consumers and found that nearly half of the U.S. online
population has downloaded an app. More importantly, app users plan to increase their
usage and non-users plan to begin using apps in the near future.

Growing App Market Has Vast Untapped Potential

Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2012)The mobile app ecosystem is poised to grow significantly in the near future, according to a study released today by the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by Frank N. Magid and Associates, surveyed 1,000 online consumers and found that nearly half of the U.S. online population has downloaded an app, but only one-quarter has paid for a download. The study also found that app users plan to download more apps and non-users plan to begin using apps in the future.
