Washington, D.C. (June 27, 2013) – The Application Developers Alliance has officially launched a tool to help developers monetize and optimize their apps. The Monetization Tool is the first comprehensive database of monetization platforms and resources. The tool enables app publishers to search and compare hundreds of advertising networks, optimization services, and analytics resources to find the right fit for their app.
“I wish something like this had been available when we were starting up 11 years ago,” said Josh Hartwell, CEO of Mobile Deluxe. “While it may be easy to generate some revenue from apps now, it’s not easy to do it well. The Monetization Tool makes it easy to do it well.”
The Monetization Tool was introduced to Alliance members last week, and more than 1,200 developers and publishers have already used the platform.
“App publishers make critical decisions at every step along the development process. They consider functionality, design, and user experience, but one of the most difficult and important choices is how to monetize,” said Alliance Executive Director, Jake Ward. “There are seemingly endless options to be considered. We hope this tool will help developers better understand what they are looking for, save priceless time, and find the right strategy.”
For developers who already have a monetization strategy in place, the tool also offers an optimization function that provides listings of companies that can help maximize revenue.
“Many developers stick to one monetization strategy which is not the way to go,” said Arfan Chaudhry of Tapgage. “One monetization strategy may work on one app but its not guaranteed to work on all apps. So this tool gives the developer more knowledge of different monetization providers out there that they could implement within their apps and boost their revenues.”
The tool was developed in collaboration with the Alliance Business and Revenue Working Group. In conjunction with the release of the Monetization Tool, the Business & Revenue Working Group has also released a white paper: “App Monetization: Picking the Path to App Profitability.” The white paper provides information about app monetization, including where to sell an app, how to price it, and how to generate revenue.
The Alliance will host events on app monetization in San Francisco (August 2nd), New York (September 26), and Los Angeles (October 18). Details will follow in the coming weeks.
