WASHINGTON, DC – The Application Developers Alliance announced today that its national patent reform discussion will continue in 2015, beginning with events in Minnesota, Iowa, Nevada, Utah and Rhode Island. The five-city tour will convene app developers, inventors, local businesses, patent experts, and policymakers to discuss the urgent need for comprehensive patent reform. The first event will be in St. Paul, Minnesota this Wednesday, January 28.
“Patent trolls are attacking innovators and job-creators nationwide. Developers, inventors and businesses in every state have been threatened, and even ruined by patent trolls,” said Jon Potter, President, Application Developers Alliance. “In 2015 Congress must finish the job it started last year – protect small business and economic growth by passing meaningful, comprehensive patent reform. Only legislation will squelch the patent troll industry that single-handedly bled an estimated $80 billion from the American economy in 2014.”
The Application Developers Alliance supports legislative reforms that undermine the patent troll business model without harming legitimate patent enforcement. The Alliance supports policies that short-circuit frivolous litigation, address the imbalance in litigation burdens, and ensure transparency and specificity in demand letters and complaints.
