Washington, D.C. (September 20, 2012) – The Application Developers Alliance announced today that more than 10,000 developers have joined the organization. Founded in January, the Alliance represents members from across the country and around the world, including developers working for large corporations, small app publishers, startups, and as independent innovators.
“The Alliance was created to look at the landscape of the industry and represent the best interest of software developers,” said Jon Potter, Alliance founder and President, “Our rapid growth is a reflection of the unique value and support we provide our members, but also the result of a need we are meeting as advocates for individuals and the industry. Developers are an unmatched economic engine, an essential and expanding workforce of true innovators. The Alliance is proud to represent our members and the industry as a whole and looks forward to delivering even greater value in the coming months and years.”
Alliance members receive discounts on services and tools and access to events, research, job forums, and a growing educational resource center. The Alliance also advocates on behalf of the industry on public policy and regulatory issues at the state and federal level.
“Public policy is so important to our industry, but many developers (myself included) don’t really take the time to interact with policy makers,” said Brad Montgomery, a Tennessee-based developer at Work for Pie. “The Application Developers Alliance is helping to change this, and I think this can only strengthen the future of technology in the US.”
Gregory Jacobs, one of the earliest Alliance individual members, said “I thought the Apps Alliance was an amazing idea since the beginning and I have been behind them all the way. As a developer it is a great thing to have an organization behind you that will fight for your rights and have a developer mindset while doing so.”
A recent study released by the Alliance in conjunction with Frank N. Magid and Associates indicates that the mobile app market is growing rapidly and poised to make a significant jump in the coming months. The strength of the mobile app marketplace is mirrored across platforms and benefits developers generally as millions more applications are downloaded and the app ecosystem continues to grow.
