On the 12-13th of November, Apps World, one of Europe’s key tech events, returned to London for its fifth year. A gathering of attendees across the app ecosystem, Apps World brings industry leaders together for insightful discussions and debates on the latest in multi-platform apps. The Apps Alliance team was out in force alongside a host of member companies to meet the thousands of developers in attendance.
While mobile apps continued to dominate the two-day event, it was clear that emerging areas such as virtual reality (VR), wearables, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are increasingly important for European developers.
Exhibitors such as Trinus Gyre, a disruptive startup in the VR space, demonstrated their ability to bring the immersive features seen in Oculus Rift to consumers, directly through mobile apps. Their crowded booth made it clear that affordable VR is an exciting prospect for developers and consumers alike.
The annual Appster Awards showed the success of IoT apps released over the past 12 months, with British Gas taking home three awards for Hive, a consumer app that allows customers to change their home’s heating directly from their phone. The UK-based utilities company won Best App Technology, Best IoT Development, and were named overall Appster Champions for 2014.
If you didn’t get to meet the team at this year’s Apps World London, feel free to get in touch with Michael Greenberg, our European Membership Manager, at Michael@appdevelopersalliance.org to find out more about the Apps Alliance in Europe and how you can get involved.
