The 2014 mHealth Summit convened experts across several industries in Washington, DC from December 7-11. The largest event of its kind, the 2014 mHealth Summit explored the intersection of innovation and evidence. The Apps Alliance team hosted a booth on the exhibit floor to chat with developers and medical professionals alike regarding educational programming in the health and medical space as well as policy efforts.
While the exhibit floor retained a mix of app publishers, middleware and backend tools, medical devices, and large hardware companies, the programming highlighted the potential to drive change and innovation in a developing mobile health space. The conference also emphasized the point that weaving mobile technology into the medical field doesn’t have to remove humanity from medicine. Instead, developers are challenged to use technology to bridge the gap between patients and professionals. The core idea is to bring us closer to the model of healthcare used a hundred years ago, where a doctor made house-calls to do diagnostic work, regular check ups, and basic treatment.
The Apps Alliance team also hosted an mHealth Happy Hour with our friends at MobileSmith. We were joined by several of our members, including folks from MobileSmith, MedStar, and HIMSS. With brief opening remarks from Apps Alliance President Jon Potter, there were great conversations about issues in the space, opportunities and challenges in mHealth, and potential business ventures.
