Application Developers Alliance Criticizes Federal Communication Commission’s New Privacy Guidelines on Internet Service Providers
Washington, D.C. (March 31, 2016) – The below is a statement from Application Developers Alliance President and CEO Jake Ward in response to the Federal Communication Commission’s party-line vote to formally consider rules to impose strict privacy guidelines on internet service providers (ISPs).
“The FCC’s goals are well-intentioned, but they are heavy-handed, blur jurisdictional lines, and will ultimately confuse innovators and consumers and drive up costs for everyone.
“Internet service providers understand how important consumer privacy is, and are already acting as good data stewards. The FCC should be taking steps to foster innovation in the sector instead of attempting to enact rigid and outdated rules that will only stifle growth. This is yet another unfortunate example of the FCC putting its thumb on the scale of innovation.”
