Call for Clarity of Ed Tech Rules, Data Usage Best Practices, and Parental Controls
Washington, D.C. –The Application Developers Alliance today called on Congress to consider the importance of access to high quality educational materials when considering technology’s role in the classroom. The House Education and Workforce Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education held a hearing today to examine “How Emerging Technology Affects Student Privacy.”
“Low-cost educational tools that engage parents and children can make a big difference in children’s lives,” said Apps Alliance President Jon Potter. “There is no question that children’s personal information is sacrosanct, but with clear rules governing education technologies and a greater emphasis on best practices, the immense opportunities created by technology should not have to stop at the school house doors.”
Today’s hearing included witnesses from the National Parent Teacher Association, Microsoft, Calcasieu Parish Public Schools in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and the Center on Law and Information Policy.
