Washington, DC — Developers Alliance President and CEO Bruce Gustafson released the following statement regarding Joseph Simons’ and Rohit Chopra’s nomination to the Federal Trade Commission.

“The Developers Alliance congratulates Joseph Simons on his nomination to head the Federal Trade Commission and encourage Congress to move swiftly to confirm the nomination, as well as the nomination of Rohit Chopra to the Commission.”

“The FTC’s work in protecting consumers from identity theft, fraud, and other online crimes is critical in promoting trust in the digital economy. Their work in promoting competitive markets while safeguarding innovation is no less important to developers, and the Alliance is pleased to see a nominee with a strong record of balanced enforcement. What makes the FTC so effective is the unwavering focus on consumer welfare that drives their mission, coupled with a pragmatic approach rooted in the real-world.”

“As an industry veteran with a deep knowledge of the technology market, Simons is universally respected by his peers. He has made significant contributions to both the theory and practice of oversight in competitive markets, and his experience both inside the FTC and in private practice has prepared him well to lead the Commission. Combined with Rohit Chopra’s long history of protecting consumers, the FTC will be well positioned to ensure the fairness and competition that developers rely on.”

“Lastly, we encourage President Trump to formally nominate Noah Phillips to fill the final opening on the Commission soon to ensure the Commission to continue with its invaluable mission.”
