Developers Alliance Statement on the LIBE Vote on the ePrivacy Regulation
BRUSSELS – Developers Alliance Director of European Policy and Government Relations, Michela Palladino, released the following statement regarding the adoption of the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) report on the ePrivacy Regulation.
“The Developers Alliance and its members are extremely concerned about the report on the ePrivacy Regulation adopted today by the European Parliament’s LIBE Committee. The current text risks to seriously disrupt small businesses and software developers’ business models and market choices.”
“Over the past few months, we have repeatedly invited the Parliament to take all the necessary time to re-evaluate the dossier and realize that a more sustainable solution was possible.
We were worried about the speed at which the European Parliament had been trying to close this file, and feared that such haste would lead to a damaging outcome. Our fears became reality with this morning’s vote.”
“At this point, we would like to encourage the Council and all Member States to be more responsible and to take into account the practical implication both for businesses and consumers of the current text. “
“We encourage all stakeholders to continue this critical discussion in order to find a solution that supports digital innovation in Europe and creates a workable environment, based on consumers’ trust in the communications services they use.”
