App Developers Alliance Applauds Swift Action on Senate Patent Reform Bill

Critical Reforms Needed to Protect Startups and App Developers from Patent Trolls

Washington, D.C. – The Application Developers Alliance called for swift passage of the comprehensive patent reform bill, the PATENT Act, being heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee today.

“We are encouraged to see the Committee moving so quickly on this critical legislation,” said Jon Potter, President of the App Developers Alliance. “Just last week more than a dozen Alliance members met with PATENT Act sponsors and other Committee members in Washington, and urged passage of anti-troll legislation. Abusive patent trolls are a tax on innovation, they threaten small companies nationwide and this extortion needs to stop now. Importantly, the bill addresses specificity in demand letters and the imbalance in litigation burdens. We look forward to working with the Senate on this legislation that is so important for innovators, small businesses and the economy.”

The Application Developers Alliance supports legislative reforms that undermine the patent troll business model without harming legitimate patent enforcement. The Alliance supports policies that short-circuit frivolous litigation, address the imbalance in litigation burdens, and ensure transparency and specificity in demand letters and complaints.
