The Application Developers Alliance partnered with Unified Patents to bring free protection from patent trolls to companies with less than $20 million in annual revenue.
Patent trolls abuse our patent system to extort money from businesses. They claim patent infringement knowing that the cost of defending against a claim (even an unfounded and unjustified one) is often enough to scare companies into settling. Thousands of companies each year, including members of the Application Developers Alliance, have been threatened and targeted by patent trolls.
Through our partnership with Unified Patents, we’re offering startups and small business owners a fighting chance against patent trolls. For companies with less than $20 million in annual revenue, membership with Unified Patents is absolutely free.
Unified Patents is a leading company in the troll-fighting industry. On behalf of its members, Unified Patents:

Turns the table by attacking the trolls instead of waiting for the trolls to attack first;

Monitors the patent market so it can track when trolls are buying and selling patents, and analyzes when trolls are more likely to strike; and
- Investigates patents when trolls threaten Unified members, and either attacks the patent independently or offers guidance to members about the weakness of the patents.

In the meantime, the Application Developers Alliance will continue to fight on legislative and regulatory issues to ensure that developers are able to focus on innovation, job creation, and building great apps. The Alliance supports policies that short-circuit frivolous litigation, address the imbalance in litigation burdens, and ensure transparency and specificity in demand letters and complaints.
