To kick off the Casual Connect conference in San Francisco last night, we joined Flurry in hosting a panel exploring why mobile video advertising works.
Panelists from AdColony, Flurry, OpenX, and Cie Games convened at Flurry HQ for an insightful discussion about how video can be used effectively to help developers make money and acquire new users. Panelists agreed that mobile video can be lucrative, but it must fit within the overall app experience.
David Kurtz from AdColony urged developers to think of video advertising like you would a TV commercial—If there is a logical break in the action of your app, like changing levels or moving to a new section, then inserting a video will be much more practical.
Austin Yuen of Cie Games said mobile video is by far the company’s best source of advertising revenue. Making a 15-second video highlighting best features and key differentiators—and putting some money behind it—is a fantastic way to entice users to download your app.
We welcomed 100 developers, entrepreneurs, and tech experts to the event, including Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer (pictured above with the Apps Alliance’s Mike Schwartz). Mayer stopped by to celebrate the recent announcement that Yahoo will acquire Flurry.
