Yahoo’s London office hosted panelists from Google, Rackspace and ElasticHosts. They discussed what developers need to know when moving apps to the cloud. Richard Davies, CEO of ElasticHosts started the conversation by giving a succinct explanation of IaaS and PaaS to the audience, along with discussing the rise of containerization in cloud hosting.

Jamie Hannaford, a Developer Evangelist at Rackspace, points out that developers don’t need to understand all the intricacies of the cloud. Instead, by utilizing a dedicated cloud service, developers can concentrate on creating great products.

Later in the evening, Jake Ward of the Apps Alliance sat down with Eugene Stipp, Senior Director of Engineering for Mobile and Emerging Products at Yahoo, to discuss Yahoo’s experience of rolling out apps. Stipp gave one of the key takeaways of the evening by emphasizing that even if you find your app to be “perfect” by the time it gets to users, its too late. Break down your app and get feedback in advance to ensure that you have other perspectives on your app — even if that means Marissa Mayer sees it before its perfect.

Keep an eye out for updates on our upcoming events in Paris, Berlin and Ljubljana over the next few months. We hope to see you there!
