Data Privacy Day

January 28 is Data Privacy Day. Yesterday, we were surprised and disappointed by reports of large-scale U.S. and British government surveillance of apps. Consumers entrust personal information to apps, and app developers’ highest priority is protecting their users’ privacy. This surveillance damages trust in the entire industry and undermines the hard work of developers everywhere.

App developers are constantly innovating new ways to protect consumers’ privacy. In support of that work, last year, we took a leading role in drafting the voluntary code of conduct for mobile app privacy that resulted from multistakeholder talks held by the U.S. Department of Commerce. This year, we’ll be participating in similar talks on the topic of facial recognition technologies.

The App Developers Alliance encourages users to stay informed of privacy policies and only use apps they trust.
