America’s Innovators Need Patent Litigation Alternative

Today the App Developers Alliance briefed Senate staff on the need to expand the Covered Business Method (CBM) patent review program. CBM provides a less expensive, faster, administrative alternative to patent litigation, but currently, it only applies to financial services business method patents.

“Patent trolls use poor-quality business method patents to extort licensing fees from America’s innovators with the threat of costly, frivolous lawsuits. Entrepreneurs and job creators deserve better,” said Tim Sparapani, Apps Alliance VP of Government Relations. “The CBM program gives innovators a viable way to challenge patents that never should have been approved in the first place.”
